Comanche ISD High School

Built in 1976, the original Comanche High School featured a single-story main building, an agriculture building, a weight room, and three temporary portables. BRW worked with Comanche ISD to complete a needs assessment, performing site observations, conducting workshops with the community, and evaluating the existing facility. While maintaining high-performance educational ratings, the facility lacked quality spaces and resources to match. Double-stacked corridors gave students and staff no natural light, furniture and cabinet systems were broken, and the finishes were worn out. Additional resource spaces, such as the clinic, media center, and band hall, were undersized, lacked proper performance needs, and, without natural light, relied heavily on outdated lighting. It was therefore concluded that Comanche High School would undergo a renovation and addition.

Starting with a new front door, the new main entrance will proudly showcase Comanche’s black and gold and welcome the community through a secure vestibule. A one-story connector, housing the new administration suite, will seamlessly link the new and existing buildings while creating a secure courtyard for students. The newly constructed two-story building will accommodate modern classrooms, science labs, a band hall, a library, and essential support spaces—all thoughtfully designed to maximize natural light. Key areas from the original structure, including the dining area and stage, automotive lab, athletics support, kitchen, and science labs, will undergo renovations to enhance functionality and aesthetics. Throughout the campus, bold graphics will celebrate school pride and Comanche history, fostering a sense of identity and tradition.

Scheduled for completion within two years, the revitalized Comanche High School will provide an enriched learning environment for students, support teacher retention, meet modern code and safety standards, and serve the district’s growing community for years to come.
