In the 2019 Spring edition of Learning By Design Educational Facilities Design Awards, the Coppell Life Safety Park received the Outstanding Project award in the category of Specialized Education Facility and a Multi-use Building. The publication showcases the very best in the education design and construction market, top entries are selected through a prestigious jury of architects and educational facility experts. Since completion in January 2017, the Coppell Life Safety Park has received six awards in several categories for its design.
A new community-based education park in a Texas community that has grown over time, had the vision to fund a project, an instrument for teaching and a community-based feature that provides layers of impact for its residents and visitors alike. The concept and mission; to build a unique indoor | outdoor facility providing hands-on based instruction for teaching life safety concepts through a non-traditional process.
The Life Safety learning enhancement is illustrated in a setting that is both inviting and familiar to young learners, along with technology that surrounds the experience designed around creatively scaled spaces. The technology safety education cultivates daily routines of youngsters at home, school, and in the public realm. Examples include simulated kitchen fires, mock driving courses, pedestrian | bike safety, working traffic signals, severe weather events, and interaction with public safety officers.
In addition, Coppell had the vision to merge this primarily park-based facility into a central Emergency Operations Center, as well. By combining these two unique functional programs, the new facility is a one-of-a-kind facility that both educates and protects the diverse layers of the community it serves.
