Congrats, Emily!

Meet Emily Murphy, BRW’s newest architect!

Emily Murphy started at BRW College Station as a part timer in 2015. She interned while she attended Texas A&M for both her undergraduate (2016) and graduate (2018) degrees. She accepted a full-time position with BRW in the summer of 2018. After her college years, Emily decided to give herself a three-month break before starting to pursue her licensure, but due to the craziness that is life, she ended up waiting six months. In those six months, Emily planned her wedding and geared up to take her first test. In the spring of 2019, Emily took and passed her first test then married Bryant in a destination wedding in Destin, FL and went on a fantastic honeymoon in Jamaica.

Again, life intervened…enter in COVID. The pandemic threw a wrench in her journey to licensure coupled with unforeseen nerve damage to her wrist. This made studying extremely difficult for her as she is typically a heavy note taker! She resolved to using audio/video and discovered this helped her learn the material more than just memorizing it. Emily was able to pass her last exam in August 2021.

Emily’s husband along with their pup Gurgi have been her greatest support system throughout this long journey, and her family always understood if she had to miss a family gathering due to studying or testing. Her coworkers also supported her by giving her tons of great advice from those that had been through the process. In addition to the advice, Emily utilized testing resources that BRW provided.

Where does Emily see herself moving forward? She is a very goal-oriented person. After becoming licensed, she asked herself “now what?” Well, Emily is looking towards setting and accomplishing new goals as she continues to learn and grow from those around her.

Her advice to others looking to pursue their licensure is simple.

Just jump in and get started! The road to licensure seems pretty daunting at first, but once you get into it, it’s not as scary as it seems. Use your mentors, coworkers and peers as resources. Continue to be curious and ask questions because you’ll never know what you can accomplish until you just try.
